Zhoghovurd daily of the Republic of Armenia (RA) writes as follows: Yesterday it became known that RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan went on a working visit to the RF [(Russian Federation)], Saint Petersburg. Nikol Pashinyan participated there in the session of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council [of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU)]. And today, December 26, he will participate in the informal summit of the CIS [(Commonwealth of Independent States)].
Dmitry Peskov, the spokesman of the Russian president, considered this a good opportunity for Pashinyan-[Russian President Vladimir] Putin contact after a long pause.
As our sources convey, Pashinyan’s visit to the RF is expected especially by the Russian authorities, as they have many questions for Pashinyan, and the RF president has explanations to receive personally from Pashinyan.
According to the information we have received, the RF authorities are very serious this time and will demand Pashinyan not to give another choppy and fuzzy answers, but clear and concrete answers about RF-Armenia cooperation and relations, which still are in an overstrained situation.
It is also noteworthy that Armenia’s authorities were avoiding all meetings organized with the mediation of Russia for a long time, but now, it seems, Pashinyan’s government has regretted the idea of destroying relations with Russia once and for all and decided to restore them. In this sense, Nikol Pashinyan’s visit to the RF can be said to be historic.
