Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi has been confirmed dead in a helicopter crash in Iran’s Azerbaijan province. Raisi’s death comes amid rising tensions with the West and Israel amid the war in Gaza. Ebrahim Raisi was regarded as the successor to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Raisi has been a controversial figure in Iran with many even calling him the ‘Butcher of Tehran’.
